State Street Scarves

Schenectady & Niskayuna join together to help community

State Street ScarvesA group of Schenectady and Niskayuna High School students, who have forged a partnership between their schools this year, spent an afternoon spreading warmth, kindness and compassion along State Street in Schenectady.  The students left more than 500 scarves, each decorated with a message of hope, tied to street signs, poles and railings, for anyone who needs them to take.  CDTA provided transportation for the students.

The students collected the scarves which were donated by staff, students and families.

The students from the two schools first came together this fall through a peer leadership training offered through the Anti-Defamation League.   They continue to work together.

"We wanted to keep meeting with each other and we came up with the idea to do something to help our community," said Jessica Grant, a senior at Schenectady High School.
